On 28th March I conducted a SKYPE Author School Visit with the children of Oakridge International School in Hyderabad, India.
There have been a lot of schools asking for visits but I'm finding it hard to get to all the schools as well as writing the new Thirteen Things series of books.

SKYPE visits seem to be a good solution, especially for UK schools a long way from London and for international schools outside the UK.
The talk was at 8.00 a.m. UK time because of the time difference. It was 1.30 p.m. at their school in India.
I spoke to the children about the work of an author and answered questions about my job and my stories.
I have already physically visited over 1,000 schools in the UK but, using this technology, many more schools can have an author visit.
I think it's fantastic that these video-link SKYPE visits can be for schools in the UK or anywhere else in the world.

We're now setting more quizzes for the Kernowland in Erthwurld series so that you can try them in class or at home. This is the fourth QuickQuiz, 5 questions with written answers.


QuickQuiz 4 is now available
Some quizzes will be based on specific chapters in specific books, so that you can read the chapters and then have a go at answering the questions knowing that the answers will be found in those few pages.

Then other quizzes will be quite a bit harder because the answers to the questions will only be found somewhere in one whole book.

Other quizzes will be a lot harder because the questions will come from any of the six books in the series.

The first video is very short and shows 3 teacher's giving their comments on the school visits so that other schools can have some idea of what use a visit might be put to.

We'll be adding lots more videos about books, stories, writing, reading and so on as we go along.

Using pictures to start stories - The Pointed Crystal

Balraaj, from Canada, is only six but, if you click to enlarge the picture and look closely, he has created a wonderful 3-D effect to make the image look as if it's a real physical object. The original is here.

Any picture can help get a story started. I begin by asking questions about the picture, and, as soon as I start writing down the answers, the story has begun. Can you think of 5 questions to ask about this picture and use the answers to continue the story below?

There was once a little boy called Balraaj, who was very good at drawing. One day, he drew a picture of a pointed crystal. As soon as he had finished colouring it in, the crystal began to glow. Then it started to rise up from the page...
