Oakridge International School, Hyderabad, India |
On 28th March I conducted a SKYPE Author School Visit with the children of Oakridge International School in Hyderabad, India.
There have been a lot of schools asking for visits but I'm finding it hard to get to all the schools as well as writing the new Thirteen Things series of books.
Jack Trelawny during Skype Visit to Oakridge International School |
SKYPE visits seem to be a good solution, especially for UK schools a long way from London and for international schools outside the UK.
The talk was at 8.00 a.m. UK time because of the time difference. It was 1.30 p.m. at their school in India.
I have already physically visited over 1,000 schools in the UK but, using this technology, many more schools can have an author visit.
I think it's fantastic that these video-link SKYPE visits can be for schools in the UK or anywhere else in the world.
The full address of the school is: Oakridge International School: Newton Campus, Khajaguda, Nanakramguda Road, Cyberabad, Hyderabad - 500008, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA.

The Skype Session
ReplyDeleteI was very excited when I first heard that we are going to have a Skype Session with an author! I’d never met an author before!!
That everything I researched about the author. Few days later, I even bought the book.
I enjoyed the book very much and loved the Skype Session. I would like to buy the other books of Kernowland series in the summer vacation and I would wish to meet jack Trelawny sometime again soon!!

DeleteI am veri inspired by the author. -Smarna 5G
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment, Smarna. Talking to children at their school gives me ideas and inspiration for my writing. I even changed the story plan for the second Kernowland in Erthwurld book, Darkness Day, after visiting schools with the first book. The children liked the mutants so much that I made more of them for the rest of the series. Best wishes, Jack.
DeleteThe session was informative, I was very exited at first. I learnt how you feel when you are an author.. I also learnt a few tips for writing a good book.
ReplyDeleteThis session also introduced me to a new whole interesting series.

Thank you for your comment, Akshay. I'm glad the session introduced you to a new series and that you find it interesting. Today, I'm sitting at my computer writing the final few chapters of the first book in a new series called 'Thirteen Things'. Each story will be based on a real 'object' or 'thing'. I find out all about the history of the object and make a story around it. The first story is called 'The Emperor's Rhinoceros'. It is based on the true story of a rhino who became the most famous animal in the world. 500 years ago, a rhinoceros was taken from India to Portugal as a gift from a Sultan to an Emperor. This true story gave me lots of ideas for the pretend story. Best wishes, Jack.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, Vijay. I am very glad that you enjoyed the Skype session. Best wishes, Jack.
DeleteI was so excited when the time came to talk to the author. We got to ask him questionsthat we wanted to know, about... writing a book. Eg: How do you get ideas for writing etc.. We learnt a lot of tips for writinga book. Jack Trelawny told that he felt great about writing books and when his books were up on the shelves of teh shops. He said we all are young readers and we all can become writers also. We all felt inspired with his words. We all wish that we can have more sessions with this author.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for your time and inspiring informative talk.
-Nina 5B
Thank you for your comments, Nina. I am very glad that you enjoyed the Skype session. I am writing down lots of the ideas that have helped me in something called 'Jack Trelawny's Story House'. With all the ideas in one place - the 'house' - this will hopefully give children lots of ideas for writing too. Best wishes, Jack.
