Heavers Farm Primary School - Video

On 22 November 2011, I visited Heavers Farm Primary School in South Norwood, London, and gave a slideshow presentation and talk followed by a 'Meet the Author' booksigning event.

Afterwards, some of the children kindly made a video about the visit. It's great when children and teachers do things like this because it helps other schools to know what happens so they can decide if they would like a FREE Jack Trelawny author visit to their school.

I'd like to say a big 'THANK YOU' to Pearl Class in Year 3 who made the video.

Sidmouth Primary School EX10 9XB - Teacher Review

'Thanks for a Fantastic Visit'
I visited Sidmouth Primary School and gave a slideshow presentation and talk followed by a 'Meet the Author' booksigning event.
After the visit, Literacy Coordinator, Caroline Morgan, kindly wrote to Campion Books with a review of the visit. This helps other schools to know what happens so they can decide if they would like a FREE Jack Trelawny author visit to their school...

To Jane Bennett
Events Manager
Campion Books

Dear Jane,
I just wanted to e-mail to say how fantastic our visit from Jack Trewawny was yesterday.
The children (and staff) found his talk really inspirational and the opportunity to have books signed after the visit was brilliant too.
I have been approached by one parent this morning to say that her son, who is usually a reluctant reader, has already read the first ten chapters of the book and had to be pried away from it at bedtime!
Another child has come into school this morning with the beginning of a story he is writing which has clearly been influenced by Jack's book and presentation.
Please could you pass my thanks on to Jack.

Thank you,
Caroline Morgan

Thanks for your letter, Zac. I enjoyed coming to talk to talk to your school during book week. Perhaps I'll see you all again when the first book in the new Thirteen Things series comes out. It's called The Emperor's Rhinoceros and is based on the true story of a real rhinoceros and a real object (or 'thing') from about 500 years ago.

I agree with Angus that the Eden Project is very interesting. I said in the talk that I learn all I can about the real world and then I can take things from the real world and change them around to put them in to my stories. When I went to the real Eden Project to find things out, I saw it was in a great big valley, so I made a pretend 'Eden Valley' in my story.

I also saw that there were carnivorous (meat eating) plants at the real Eden Project. So, in my story I invented a giant meat eating tree-creature called, Monstro. He has twelve staring eyes that can see in all directions and twelve branch arms that he uses to catch children before he eats them.

Yes, Tobias, I can certainly say that Thorpe Hall Lower School children were a well behaved audience. There were lots of good questions too. I hope I gave some good answers!

Well done Emily for remembering that we talked about the 'W' words for stories in the slideshow presentation. I find an easy way to remember the parts that make up stories is to look at the Story House.

I really like the animal that Ameala has drawn. Do you think it's a friendly animal or a ferocious creature?
