I look up lots of 'quotes' to give me ideas for stories. Since the person who said the words in the first place is often someone important or clever, I try to find out about their lives to give me even more ideas for characters (who), settings (where and when), and plot (what happens).

Andrews Lane Primary School EN7 6LB - Review

'The children... had... a most enjoyable time'
I visited Andrews Lane Primary School in Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Essex and gave a slideshow presentation and talk followed by a 'Meet the Author' booksigning event.
After the visit, the school wrote to Campion Books with a brief review of the visit...

Children's author visits school

CHILDREN at St Norbert’s Catholic Primary School in Spalding were treated to a rare insight into the life of a well-known writer of children’s books.

The school’s junior classes met Jack Trelawny, famous for his Kernowland series of books, when he visited on a nationwide tour.

He told them about his life and the inspiration for his books, and dedicated and signed a book to them. They enjoyed a workshop in which they made up stories about just a few of Jack’s animal creations, like apechicks and dogbears.

Kings Norton Primary School

'Fascinating presentation'
On 20 January 2012, I visited Kings Norton Primary School in Birmingham, and gave a slideshow presentation and talk followed by a 'Meet the Author' booksigning event.

Afterwards, the school kindly reviewed the visit on their website, with a slideshow of great photos they took. This helps other schools to know what happens so they can decide if they would like a FREE Jack Trelawny author visit to their school...

An Author Comes to Visit!
On Friday January 20th we had a special visit from Jack Trelawny, ‘Edutainor’ and author of the ‘Kernowland in Erthwurld’ children's books. During the morning, we gathered in the hall where Jack treated us to an entertaining and informative display of his work. 
First we listened to Jack’s reading of the first chapter of ‘The Crystal Pool’ and we were introduced to the main characters, Tizzie and Louis. Just as we became engrossed, Jack cunningly stopped at a cliff hanger moment in the story, leaving us wanting to know more!  We then heard how Jack develops his mythological characters, cleverly blending combinations of real animals into completely new creatures. He told us all about how he gets his ideas from finding things out about the real world and incorporating them into his plot or setting. We now have some new strategies to make our own writing more interesting!  
At the end of Jack’s fascinating presentation, the lucky children who had sent in money were able to meet the great man himself and obtain an exclusive signed copy to take home to read. Thank you for coming Jack – you inspired us!

Harpfield Primary School ST4 6AT

'All of the children ... enjoyed the experience very much'
I gave a talk and slideshow about writing and the Kernowland in Erthwurld series to the children in KS2.

After the talk, Headteacher Jill Robertson reviewed the visit in the local newspaper:
"We contacted Jack and asked him to come to the school and we were delighted when he agreed. All of the children were really interested in what he had to say and enjoyed the experience very much."
