Whitchurch Primary School RG8 7EJ

Article: Guest to inspire budding authors...
Jack Trelawny (pictured centre); a great inspiration for the children.

February was an exciting month for Whitchurch Primary School with visits from two high profile guests from the fields of writing and sport.

At the start of the month, children’s author Jack Trelawny came to the school to read from his popular Kernowland books and talk about his work. His visit enthralled pupils with the delights of imaginative writing and story-telling.

The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the colourful characters and magical lands featured in his books. They were thrilled to hear how and where he does his research and also the way he uses everyday experiences in his writing.

The school has been working hard on writing skills and Jack’s talk has already inspired some exciting compositions. Many of the children have also been busy reading his books.

Writing will continue to be a major focus for the school. We feel that one of the best ways to encourage our young writers and fuel their imagination is to give them face-to-face encounters with some of the country’s best creative talents. Following the success of Jack’s visit we have planned for more literary guests to come to the school.

Lothingland Middle School NR32 5LL

'The teachers really liked the points you made...'

I visited Lothingland Middle School in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and gave a slideshow presentation and talk followed by a 'Meet the Author' booksigning event.
Afterwards, the school kindly wrote with a review of the visit. Feedback like this is useful because it helps other schools to decide if they might enjoy an author visit...

Just a HUGE thank you for your time, trouble and effort for our event at Lothingland Middle School on October 9th.
The teachers and pupils alike really enjoyed the interesting talk you gave and we have had some very positive feedback from all involved.
The teachers really liked the points you made about having to check and draft your work as it is something they struggle to get the children to do, and the children loved the break from the normal school routine to do something different!

See you next time in the Story House.

Kernowland 2 Darkness Day by Jack Trelawny published 16 Sep 2006

ISBN 9780954633851   Hardcover   160 pages
Kernowland 2 Darkness Day published today
The second book in the Kernowland in Erthwurld Series, Darkness Day, was published today, 16 September 2006.

The adventure continues...
Tizzie, Louis, and Misty the little blue mouse, were left in dire straits at the end of Book 1. In Book 2, we find out which of them survives.
We meet more of the gruesome characters in Kernowland, like Wendron the wrinkled witch and Warleggan the warty warlock, as well as old favourites like the fearsome Cap’n Pigleg, the scowling Sheviok Scurvy, and the nasty Melanchol Drym, who appears on the front cover.
And then we discover what happens to poor old Dribble the dust dog when Drym catches up with him, as he surely must...
