St Columb Minor Academy TR7 3JF

Learning to ride the wave of life...

Year 4 children surfing at Lusty Glaze beach
I presented my slideshow, which mixes education with fun, for the children of St Columb Minor Primary School (now an 'Academy').

After the 'edutainment' show, I signed Kernowland 1 The Crystal Pool books and dedicated them with the children's names.

The school motto is: 'Learning to ride the wave of life'.

I felt particularly at home at this school. My grandfather was born and grew up in St Columb Minor and my late father loved surfing at Lusty Glaze beach.

The sport of reading - Guest Author at Kid's Literary Quiz

The 'sport of reading'
I was invited to be Guest Author and Scorer for the Kid's Literary Quiz, an international event to promote children's literacy initiated by Quizmaster, Professor Wayne Mills (University of Auckland, New Zealand), and sponsored by The Times Educational Supplement.

Professor Mills' idea was that the Kid's Lit Quiz would be the 'sport of reading' for children aged 11-13, when interest in reading has traditionally dipped. The event was held on 21 November at Wadebridge Secondary School. I was very honoured to be asked to hand out the prizes and congratulate the participants.

See you next time in the Story House.

Happy writing... and reading!
