Whitchurch Primary School RG8 7EJ

Article: Guest to inspire budding authors...
Jack Trelawny (pictured centre); a great inspiration for the children.

February was an exciting month for Whitchurch Primary School with visits from two high profile guests from the fields of writing and sport.

At the start of the month, children’s author Jack Trelawny came to the school to read from his popular Kernowland books and talk about his work. His visit enthralled pupils with the delights of imaginative writing and story-telling.

The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the colourful characters and magical lands featured in his books. They were thrilled to hear how and where he does his research and also the way he uses everyday experiences in his writing.

The school has been working hard on writing skills and Jack’s talk has already inspired some exciting compositions. Many of the children have also been busy reading his books.

Writing will continue to be a major focus for the school. We feel that one of the best ways to encourage our young writers and fuel their imagination is to give them face-to-face encounters with some of the country’s best creative talents. Following the success of Jack’s visit we have planned for more literary guests to come to the school.
